These mini-split systems are ductless and designed for isolated rooms or homes that do not have duct work, or it is not feasible to install. The mini-split systems come in two options, either straight air conditioning or heat pumps. With the top of the line unit being called a Hyper-Heat Heat Pump.
The Hyper-Heat Heat Pump will allow you to call for heating in a much lower degree temperature then a standard heat pump. There are also other features listed in the product manufactures specifications.
Like other heat pumps or central air conditioning systems you would determine the efficiency of the system. In the cooling months the efficiency is determined by a S.E.E.R rating (Seasonal Energy Efficient Rating) with the heating months the efficiency is determined by a HSPF rating (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor). The higher these ratings the more efficient the unit will be (like a MPG rating on a vehicle). When comparing systems make sure you are not comparing apples to oranges!
